Hi there!
My name is Merel (=blackbird in English), I’m 21 years old and I live in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I’ve been running Blackbird Studios since 2018 alongside my studies, I am currently finishing my Master’s degree in Sociology!
I love plants, cats, cooking, listening to music, city trips, visiting museums, hanging out with my boyfriend/friends/family, playing board games, going out for dinner, having philosophical conversations and biking around Rotterdam.
I’ve loved crafting for as long as I can remember and started to sell some of my creations on Etsy 6 years ago. I then realized that by selling my artworks I could make others happy with my creations while also financing my hobby. Since then I have built my own webshop and started selling in shops too. I’m currently focused on creating unique disco decorations, colorful tiled homeware but am always looking for new ways to make interior decoration with a funky twist!
I truly love what I do. Making my products by hand, packing orders, taking product photos, selling at markets, editing social media posts, restocking my items in shops, working on my website; there’s a lot involved in running Blackbird Studios but I like the variety and even find myself enjoying administration sometimes ;).
I hope to keep growing Blackbird Studios while staying true to what I love most about it: making every product by hand, experimenting with new materials and designs, and reaching more people who share my passion for unique, colorful and detailed design.
