How much money do I make at markets?

I recently shared a Instagram posts about how much money I really make on market days. So, here is a quick blogpost where I go into this topic a bit further 🙂

I really enjoy doing markets but are they my most profitable means of selling? No, or at least not yet.

Live events like this can be very unpredictable, there are lots of factors that can influence how it packs out; the weather, city, market location within the city, time of year, possible other events nearby, amount of tourists around, other vendors participating… I could go on. I’ve had rainy but very successful days, and sunny days at lovely locations that didn’t go that well. You never know!

But even though markets are not my best financial choice every time, I still love to take the gamble. I’ve been lucky to not ever have made a big loss on a market, and I find many upsides in doing markets compared to other ways of sharing my creations.

Market days are the only time I meet people who love my items face to face. This past April I recognized a couple that I’ve seen at one of my market last year already, they told me they already own a few of my coasters and came back for more. I even got recognized from a recent re-run of an episode of ‘Eigen Huis en Tuin: Lekker Leven’ (Dutch TV-series about lifestyle/diy) in which I was featured which was a first 🙂 I always end up having lovely conversations with people about my art, how I run my business or about their own creative aspirations.

And, markets are one of the few moments where I get to meet my fellow makers too. I find it so special to connect with others, exchange ideas and tips and have a laugh. I meet the sweetest people that are incredibly passionate about their work and never hesitate to answer questions and help each other navigate spaces that come with running a business.

So you will find me at markets throughout the year again. Besides, I’d much rather invest my money in markets (and physical shops) than online ads and support real physical places where people come together 🙂

*You can find all the market dates on my homepage, or my pinned Instagram post! If you’re interested in the figures of my last market weekend, head on over to my Instagram too.
