These first weeks of April have been filled with moving furniture, repainting the floors and meeting new people 🙂 I’m so excited to move into this co-working space at De Kroon in Rotterdam and have greatly enjoyed my new workplace so far.
I have plans to re-do the flooring on my top floor space too but I’m still working on some different options of how I want to organise it. For now I will be working on all of my disco and glass tile designs up there!
I think I will use these blog posts as a way of discussing some of my Instagram updates in more depth. In this case I will share some things about what this workplace means for my business/personal life and how I feel about it 🙂
Having this workplace separate from my living space has already given me more moments to relax. I found myself working almost every moment of the day for 7 days a week since the summer of 2024 which I recognized I needed to change. It’s so easy to work more than full-time on my business because it started from and still is: my hobby, my creative outlet, my favorite thing to do. But when I’m always making products, sending out emails, doing administration, editing social media posts, buying new materials, participating in markets, restocking shops – I could go on – life starts to move so fast I physically can’t keep up anymore. When I started to structure my time a bit more I still felt the urge to scoot behind my desk and finish “just a few disco floaters” at late hours.
Now, with this studio space I have completely moved out my desk and materials from my student living which makes it easier to come home and chill out some more. But I must confess I ended up sitting on the couch, getting bored and spending that time doing administrative tasks anyway. So I’ll have to find some more creative hobbies to work on that I won’t monetize or connect to Blackbird Studios. In this next chapter of running Blackbird Studios I would like to set some rules for myself somewhat like this:
– No studio work outside 9am-5pm
– Go on a walk during my lunch break
– No administrative tasks after 8pm
– What is allowed? -> reading, drawing, knitting/crochet, painting, blog writing, …? Any tips are welcome
It’s also a very inspiring space with 11 other creators. At first I was looking for a studio space where I could work independently but this space offers so much more fun, inspiration and opportunity. It’s also very valuable to chat with other creatives about struggles, creative ideas and possible collaborations for example (it’s very refreshing to yap about all of these things to someone other than my parents and partner). Overall: very very happy with this new accomplishment!
I think it’s possible to leave comments on these posts so you’re very welcome to. However I am in doubt if people will read these longer blog posts but it’s still very useful for me to get some of these thoughts out so I’ll keep ‘m coming probably 🙂 Anyways if you’ve read this far, thank you!
